Piercing aftercare

General aftercare instructions

	Wash your hands before applying aftercare.
	Keep any dressing on for 2-3 hours.
	Keep the area around the piercing as dry as possible, gently dab dry with a clean tissue after a shower or bath.
	Apply saltwater twice daily. Use water from the kettle that has been allowed to cool, add a teaspoon of salt per mug of water.
	Let the air circulate around the piercing whenever possible.
	Wear clean, loose clothes around the piercing.

x	Do not touch or turn the jewellery in the piercing.
x	Do not change the jewellery for 10 – 12 weeks, except oral piercings which can usually be changed to a shorter bar after 2 weeks, and nostril piercings which can usually be changed after 6 weeks.
x	Do not use strong antiseptics and creams.
x	Do not attempt to increase the size of the piercing until it has fully healed.
x	Do not remove any jewellery from the piercing if you do get an infection, but contact us or if we are unavailable, your GP.

Please note: Itchiness, redness and a crusty secretion around the piercing is normal during the healing process and does not mean your piercing is infected.

Specific aftercare instructions

Navel

Follow general aftercare instructions.

Ensure belts, underwear etc are worn below the piercing.

Avoid the sea or swimming pools for 10 days.

After a bath rinse the area with clean water.

Nipple

Follow general aftercare instructions.

Avoid the sea or swimming pools for 10 days.

After a bath rinse the area with clean water.

For male nipple piercings wear loose clothes for the first week.

Tongue

While the tongue is swollen, eat only liquid foods such as soup, baby food, liquidised foods etc.

Rinse mouth out with an antiseptic mouth wash twice a day.

Take care not to bite the bar when eating, especially once the swelling has gone down.

After 2 weeks we will change the bar to a shorter one free of charge.

Lip, Labret, Madonna

Follow general aftercare instructions for the outside of the piercing.

After 2 weeks we will change the bar to a shorter one free of charge.

Surface piercing (including Eyebrow, Erl, Nape, Wrist)

Follow general aftercare instructions.

Surface piercings can be prone to migrate (grow out), and if this happens you should take out the jewellery to avoid scarring.

By following these instructions you can care for your new piercing simply and easily.
